This jewel tone embroidered wall hanging is a one-of-a-kind Indian patchwork tapestry, handmade in North India from reclaimed saris and surplus textiles. At approx. 40 × 60 inches (102 × 152 cm), it is a large statement piece for above a bed, sofa or console.

Jewel Patchwork is the most colourful piece in the collection, built from a mix of jewel-toned fabric fragments. It suits maximalist and eclectic rooms, or a plain wall that needs a burst of colour.

The Darwaza Collection

Some textiles decorate a room. Others give it presence.

The Darwaza Collection is a limited collection of individually made embroidered wall hangings, handcrafted in North India using reclaimed saris and surplus textiles sourced from India and Nepal.

Each piece shares the same rich visual language of layered embroidery, architectural archways, florals, geometric motifs, metallic threadwork, sequins and jewel-toned textile fragments, yet no two are alike.

Every wall hanging has its own arrangement of fabrics, stitching, colour and ornamentation, making each one completely individual.

The repeated archway forms give the collection its name. Darwaza means doorway or gateway, and these shapes run throughout the designs, giving each piece a strong architectural quality while still allowing the embroidery and reclaimed fabrics to remain the focus.

More than 85% of the materials used are recycled, giving existing textiles a new life and preserving the beauty of fabrics that might otherwise have been lost.

We travelled to meet the artisans and families behind these remarkable textiles and were fortunate to source this small collection directly. Each piece reflects a long tradition of textile craftsmanship, resourcefulness and handwork.

This is not a printed reproduction or a mass-produced tapestry. It is a limited textile piece with its own character, history and presence.

These are designed to be statement pieces. Hung above a bed, sofa, console table or in an entrance hall, they bring warmth, depth and character to a room. The embroidery and patchwork become even more beautiful when viewed up close, while from a distance the repeated doorway and archway forms create a striking overall composition.

They work beautifully in bohemian, eclectic, Indian-inspired, maximalist and collected interiors, but are equally striking against a simple neutral wall where the textile can become the main focal point.

Naturally Individual

The beauty of reclaimed textiles lies in their variation.

You may notice subtle differences in embroidery, stitching, colour and texture, along with occasional small repairs, irregularities or gentle traces of a fabric's previous life.

These are not faults. They are part of the character and history of reclaimed textiles and are what make each wall hanging genuinely individual.

Because each piece is made from different reclaimed and embroidered fabrics, slight variations in texture, stitching and finish are to be expected.

Colours may also appear slightly different depending on lighting and screen settings. We photograph each piece as accurately as possible so you can see exactly what you will receive.

Ways to Hang Your Wall Hanging

There are several ways to display your wall hanging, depending on the look you prefer and whether you want a permanent or removable fixing.

Please note: Aramse Aramse currently supplies one type of optional hanging fixture only — our Wooden Tapestry Clips, sold separately. The other methods below are provided simply as a helpful guide and are not supplied with your order.

Wooden Hanging Clips — Available From Us

Optional wooden tapestry clips are available separately for £25: just add Wooden Tapestry Clips to your basket.

These grip the upper edge of the textile and allow it to be displayed without putting nails or screws directly through the fabric.

If you don't add clips, your wall hanging will be supplied without hanging hardware.

Rod & Fabric Sleeve

Choose your preferred orientation first, then ask a local seamstress, tailor or sewing professional to attach a simple fabric sleeve along the back of the edge you would like to use as the top.

A wooden rod or dowel can then be pushed through the sleeve and suspended using cord, string or suitable wall hooks.

This gives a particularly clean and traditional finish and distributes the weight evenly across the textile.

DIY Wooden Dowel Method

A lightweight wooden dowel can also be paired with small textile loops sewn discreetly onto the back.

The dowel can then be hung from two hooks or suspended with cord.

Quilt or Tapestry Hanger

Wooden quilt hangers and tapestry rails are widely available and clamp gently across the top edge of the textile.

These can be a good choice for larger pieces because the weight is distributed more evenly across the width.

Curtain Rings with Clips

For a simple DIY solution, small curtain rings with padded clips can be attached evenly across the top and hung from a decorative pole.

Take care not to use clips with sharp teeth that could mark or damage the fabric.

Decorative Textile Clips

Individual wall clips can be positioned across the upper edge.

For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend using several clips rather than only one or two so that the weight is supported evenly.

Velcro Hanging System

A professional upholsterer or textile specialist can sew a soft Velcro strip onto a separate backing or sleeve, which can then attach to a matching wall-mounted strip.

This can create a very discreet floating appearance.

Because these wall hangings are made from reclaimed and embroidered textiles, we recommend avoiding nails, screws, staples or adhesive products directly through or onto the fabric wherever possible.

Whichever method you choose, make sure the weight is supported evenly across the top edge and that the fixing used is suitable for your wall type and the weight of the textile.

Care

Spot clean only.

If ironing is necessary, always place a clean towel or protective cloth between the iron and the textile.

An iron must never come into direct contact with the wall hanging.

Avoid excessive heat, strong cleaning products and prolonged exposure to direct sunlight wherever possible.
